Meet the authors behind the Christmas magic…
Do you believe in the magic of Christmas?
Sometimes it’s difficult to when you’re up to your eyeballs in roast dinners and grumpy relatives. We all have a mental image of a perfect Christmas, but it very rarely turns out like that. Kids get irritable because it’s too cold and wet for them to go outside, debt mounts as we hunt down the perfect presents, and it’s a well known fact that it’s the worst time of the year for creating friction between couples.
So what makes Christmas magical? I had this question in mind when I wrote Holly’s First Noel. It isn’t a traditional Christmas story. Holly and Noel are two schoolteachers who find themselves alone at Christmas—Noel’s wife died three years ago, and Holly’s boyfriend has dumped her—and they decide to spend the weekend on the shores of Loch Ness in Scotland being miserable together. They have no decorations, no roast dinner, and no family get-together around the dining table.
However, they discover that even though there are no customary paper hats or tinsel—and their festive dinner consists of beans on toast—magic and romance is waiting for them out in the snow. It’s a sweet and sexy tale with, I hope, an uplifting emotional message—that it’s what’s in your heart that counts, and love can turn any day into a celebration.
Plus it features the Loch Ness Monster—what more do you need in a Christmassy romance?!
Music teacher Holly Jones is in a festive predicament. Her boyfriend just dumped her the week before Christmas, so why is she only depressed he made off with the mince pies? When the charming science teacher next door overhears the dreaded call and suggests she accompany him on his Scottish holiday retreat, she accepts, eager to spend a quiet week rediscovering herself.
Noel Coward’s wife died on Christmas Eve three years ago. To bury the memories of that day, he spends the holidays getting drunk and watching action movies—which makes him perfect company for a fellow teacher in need of solitude. Except, instead of wallowing in his grief, Noel finds himself comforted by Holly’s presence, fascinated by her mind, and after one innocent kiss, on fire for her touch. As the snow piles up outside, the temperature inside soars, while together, they discover the human heart’s amazing capacity to heal…and love.

About Faye:
Faye Robertson lives in the sub-tropical Northland of New Zealand with her wonderful husband and gorgeous teenage son. She writes fun, flirty, and sexy contemporary romances for the modern woman who likes intelligent, spirited heroines, and hunky but approachable heroes. She’s won several romance writing competitions and is a member of the Romance Writers of New Zealand. She would much rather immerse herself in reading or writing romance than do the dusting and ironing, which is why it’s not a great idea to pop round if you have any allergies. She also writes romance under the name Serenity Woods.
You can find Faye at her website, on Twitter or connect on Facebook!
Snow before Christmas is a rare occurrence in the UK. Unless you live up in the Scottish mountains, you don’t normally see the white stuff until January or February. And even then, most years, we don’t get much. But in 2010 we had snow in November and December. A lot of it. There was chaos on the roads and at the airports. As soon as the snow was cleared, more fell. People who had ordered Christmas presents online couldn’t get them delivered. Anyone who needed to travel was stranded.
If you were safely tucked up in a warm home, it was magical. If you had sturdy shoes and a warm coat, you could wander down snowy lanes that looked exactly like Narnia. But if, like Anna and Hugh in my story, you worked in central London, you got to slide over icy pavements and wish that you hadn’t lost your gloves. Even the city has its magical places, though, and Anna and Hugh find one as they wander down the Embankment, watching the lights reflected in the river and listening to a children’s choir singing carols.
About All I Want for Christmas:
Last night, Anna Gardner was the life of the office Christmas party—right up until she threw herself at gorgeous advertising executive playboy, Hugh Munro. Again. Last year, Hugh let her pretend their passionate kiss never happened, but this year he’s determined to make Anna admit she wants him as much as he wants her.
Except, Hugh doesn’t know the office party is the only night of the year his friend lets her hair down. That every hour she’s away from the office is spent caring for her sickly mother. That her mother’s condition, early-onset Alzheimer’s disease, is hereditary.
When Hugh finds out what she’s been hiding, he’s forced to do some serious soul-searching. It’s not fair to Anna or her mother for him to get involved casually, but casual relationships are all he knows. Can he prove to himself—and to Anna—that she’s all he wants for Christmas?
