Do Judge A Book By Its Cover: Blackberry Winter by Sarah Jio

Colours & Fonts:
Graphics/Pictures used:
Overall design:
Why we like/dislike it: First of all…the pink! I love the pink flowers and the font! Now, add the wintry aspect and I’m absolutely in love. Sarah’s novels have all been set in watery ocean settings and I’m incredibly curious about this new winter scene. Love this cover!
Overall mark out of 10:
Would we buy this book based on its cover?
Absolutely! In fact, I’ve already pre-ordered it.

AW Do Judge A Book By Its Cover: The Hypnotist’s Love Story by Liane Moriarty

Colours & Fonts:
Graphics/Pictures used:
Overall design:
Why we like/dislike it: Obviously, I’m a huge fan of Liane Moriarty to begin with, but before seeing her name on the book cover the blues along with the tear drop immediately caught my attention. After that it was the font and the blurriness of the word “Hypnotist’s” that had me instantly curious about what was held within the pages of this book. I love this cover and can’t wait to hold a finished copy in my hands!

Do Judge A Book By Its Cover: Glass Geishas

Colours & fonts:
Graphics & pictures used:
Overall mark out of 10:

Why we like/dislike the cover: The cover for Susanna Quinn’s debut novel is simply beautiful. It’s not out there, no, but the simplicity and the girl with the umbrella and the swirly font for “Glass” is just lovely. It really catches my eye and each time I see it, I like it even more. It’s a very Asian-inspired cover (as it should be since the novel is set in Japan) and it really does tell you a lot about the book as we well as being beautiful!

Would we buy the book based on its cover? Yes!

Do Judge A Book By Its Cover: Escape

Colours & Fonts:
Graphics/pictures used:
Overall mark out of 10:

Why we like/dislike it: The UK cover for Barbara Delinsky’s brilliant novel Escape is simply gorgeous. I really liked the US cover and I loved the novel, too, but the UK cover is something else. The scene with the woman and the water behind her, with the wind blowing, just really creates something wonderful. It’s understated and simple but it seems to encapsulate the book well. I just think it’s a really beautiful cover and if I hadn’t already read the book I would totally be picking up the new cover.

Would we buy the book based on its cover? Yes.

Do Judge A Book By Its Cover: The Darker Side of Love

Colours & Fonts:
Graphics Used:
Overall Design:

Why we like/dislike it: The cover for Jessica Ruston’s third novel, quite simply, is simple and somewhat elegant. It’s not the busiest cover you’ll ever see, but the simplicity really catches your eye. You look first and see a woman, you look again and you notice her expression, see the drink there, see the way her hands are and it’s really quite nice. It’s really eye-catching, and I like how they’ve used the turquoise on the woman’s bracelet to pick out Jessica’s name and the strap line. I really like the cover and I can’t wait to read the novel, because from the look of it and from the title, it sounds like a fascinating read, something that’s not your run-of-the-mill Chick Lit!

Do Judge A Book By Its Cover: Pear Shaped

Colours & Fonts:
Graphics Used:
Overall Design:

Why we like/dislike it: Last week we brought you news on Pear Shaped by Stella Newman, however the cover we posted wasn’t the right one and the re-designed cover is even better than the original. The blue background is lovely and the graphic is nicely placed without being too much and I just love the pink and purple fonts. It’s definitely a cover that will stand out and I just love it, it’ll look fabulous when you see it properly, and I just love it. A beautiful cover!

AW Do Judge A Book By Its Cover: Perfect on Paper

Colours & Fonts:
Graphics/Pictures used:
Overall design:
Why we like/dislike it: I’ve honestly never seen a cover like this that I’m aware of. Having the heart upside-down with the author’s name in graph-like boxes below are both really unique and would certainly warrant a second look. What I’m not so sure about is that paintbrush…why exactly is it on the cover? Obviously it was used to draw the heart, but beyond that I’m not sure how it ties into the story and if it should be there. Otherwise I really like the cover!
Overall mark out of 10:
Would we buy this book based on its cover?Possibly, I’d at least pick it up for a second glance!

Do Judge A Book By Its Cover: Uncoupled

Colours & Fonts:
Graphics/pictures used:
Overall Design:

Why we like/dislike it: Uncoupled is a very interesting cover. It’s not necessarily eye-catching with the dark purple cover, but the blue highlights do make it noticeable. The way the three different scenes are picked out and displayed add a hint of what could be in the book – the beach, the train, the promenade. It’s not as nice as Enfield’s first novel’s cover but it is an impressive design that I’m a big, big fan of.

Would we buy this book based on its cover?: Yes.

Do Judge A Book By Its Cover: The Catastrophic History of You and Me by Jess Rothenberg

Colours & Fonts:
Graphics/Pictures used:
Overall design:
Why we like/dislike it: I saw this cover in a recent vlog and haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since then. I’ve never seen anything like it before and it’s so original I’m positive I’d pick it up on the spot simply to find out more. If there’s anything I don’t like it’s the font used for the title because it seems extremely choppy. But otherwise I’ve been completely intrigued by this one and I can’t wait to get my hands on it!

Do Judge A Book By Its Cover: The Angel at No. 33

Colours & Fonts:
Graphics used:
Overall Design:

Why we like/dislike it: The cover for Polly Williams’ latest novel due out next year is bright and beautiful. I like covers that use colours that pop off the shelf and with the font colours of The Angel at No 33, it’s certainly going to be popping. I like the London background and the leaves draping up the side. The only thing I’m not a big fan of is the lonely house. It looks somewhat bare being white, with all the colour around it, but other than that, this is a cover I’d definitely pick up!
